Our research approach

Sensing Everyday Life

We integrate everyday data from wearable sensors, wireless measurements, location information, and web search histories.

Understanding Behavior and Intent

We use sensing data to understand and model human behavior and the intentions behind it.

Mobility Prediction and Applications

We bring human-flow prediction into practice and pursue applications in urban systems, transportation, healthcare, and more.

Introduction

Welcome to Shimosaka Research Group.

This laboratory pursues innovative machine intelligence in ubiquitous and pervasive computing.

Our laboratory is dedicated to the study of understanding and modeling human behavior, as well as the underlying intentions, based on sensing data that are naturally acquired in everyday life. In recent years, we have focused on integrating large-scale data sources—such as location information and web search histories—with multimodal signals, including wearable sensors and wireless measurements, in order to achieve a more comprehensive understanding and prediction of human mobility and individual behavior.

Building on these foundational approaches, we have actively promoted the transfer of our technologies to industry, exemplified by the practical deployment of human flow prediction systems. At the same time, we regard the extension of these methodologies to a broad range of application domains—such as energy management (HEMS), urban and transportation systems, healthcare, and information recommendation and advertising—as an important mission of academic research within a university setting. We welcome collaborative research and academic partnerships with companies and organizations interested in these technological applications.

Furthermore, in support of researchers and students engaged in advancing real-world information processing, we also welcome contributions through endowed donations.
